Vodafone roaming charges depend on two things: when you bought your plan, and whether it includes roaming in 52 or 84 destinations. Many families have a mix of contracts, so one parent may roam free in Spain while the other pays a daily fee, and the children's lines may be different again.

This guide sets out Vodafone's prices as published on 4 October 2026 for Spain, Turkey and the USA, works out the total for one, two and four lines over ten days, and compares them with a family travel eSIM such as the Sirocco Spain eSIM. For how the family set-up works, see the family eSIM page.

Vodafone roaming in 2026: how the zones work

Vodafone splits the world into zones and sells Pay monthly plans with different roaming built in:

  • Zone A (Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Iceland, Norway): included in all Pay monthly plans.
  • Euro Roam: 52 destinations in Zones A and B, including France, Spain, Greece and Portugal.
  • Global Roam: 84 destinations in Zones A, B and C, including Turkey, the USA, Mexico and Australia.
  • Zone D and the rest of the world: further destinations such as Egypt, Morocco, Thailand and the UAE.

If your plan does not include your destination, you pay a daily fee or buy an Extra. All figures below come from Vodafone's roaming charge checker and Extras page, consulted on 4 October 2026 for a Pay monthly phone.

Destination Plan bought on or after 11 August 2021, no inclusive roaming there Plan bought before 11 August 2021
Spain £2.75 a day, or an 8-day pass at £16, or a 15-day pass at £21 Included, up to 25GB
Turkey and N. Cyprus £8 a day £6 a day
USA £8 a day £6 a day

Vodafone's daily fee covers calls, texts and up to 25GB of data from your plan. It is charged per 24 hours from when roaming is detected, and Vodafone says it is always free to receive standard rate calls and texts. If your plan already includes 84 inclusive destinations, Turkey and the USA are covered up to 25GB at no extra cost.

The checker also showed a notice that roaming in the USA "has changed" and pointed to Vodafone's FAQs. Read them before a US trip, as the details may affect your plan.

Vodafone roaming in Europe: Spain over ten days

For a recent plan without inclusive European roaming, the options for ten days in Spain are:

  • Daily fee only: 10 x £2.75 = £27.50 per line
  • 8-day pass plus two daily fees: £16 + 2 x £2.75 = £21.50 per line
  • 15-day European Roaming pass: £21 per line

The 15-day pass is the cheapest of Vodafone's published options for ten days. It is a one-off purchase that starts when you arrive and does not renew. For a family:

Lines Daily fee only 15-day pass
1 £27.50 £21
2 £55 £42
4 £110 £84

If your plan was bought before 11 August 2021, or it includes Euro Roam or Global Roam, Spain costs you nothing extra up to 25GB. In that case Vodafone is the simplest choice.

Vodafone roaming in Turkey

Turkey is part of Global Roam. Without it, the checker showed no pass, only a daily fee:

  • Plan bought on or after 11 August 2021: 10 x £8 = £80 per line
  • Plan bought before 11 August 2021: 10 x £6 = £60 per line

Vodafone roaming in the USA

The USA has the same daily fees as Turkey in Vodafone's checker: £80 per line over ten days on a recent plan, £60 on an older one, and nothing extra on a plan with 84 inclusive destinations.

What a family pays: 1, 2 and 4 lines over 10 days

The table assumes that each traveller has their own Vodafone line bought on or after 11 August 2021, without inclusive roaming at the destination, and uses the cheapest Vodafone option calculated above.

On the Sirocco side, the figure is the cheapest plan with at least 10GB and at least 10 days, multiplied by the number of travellers, with the 10% group discount from three eSIMs in the same order. Prices on this page update automatically and the exact amount is shown before payment. Sirocco charges in euros.

For reference, the European Central Bank rate on 2 October 2026 was €1 = £0.85033, if you want to convert euro amounts yourself.

Destination Lines Vodafone (cheapest option) Sirocco, at least 10GB and 10 days each
Spain 1 £21 €9.60
Spain 2 £42 €19.20
Spain 4 £84 €34.56
Turkey 1 £80 €9.10
Turkey 2 £160 €18.20
Turkey 4 £320 €32.76
USA 1 £80 €14.90
USA 2 £160 €29.80
USA 4 £320 €53.64

Compare the two columns for your own trip. The products are different in nature:

  • Calls and texts: Vodafone's daily fee and passes cover your UK minutes and texts as well as data. Sirocco is data only, with no local number.
  • Data volume: Vodafone lets you use your plan allowance up to 25GB. With Sirocco, each traveller has their own fixed data plan.
  • One family order: with Vodafone, each line is charged separately. Sirocco is one purchase with one eSIM per traveller, and each person can then switch to a different plan, such as a smaller one for a child.

To estimate how much data each person needs, try the data calculator.

When staying on Vodafone makes sense

  • Your plan includes Euro Roam or Global Roam for your destination: no extra cost up to 25GB.
  • Your plan was bought before 11 August 2021 and you are going to Spain.
  • You rely on ordinary phone calls rather than WhatsApp or other apps.
  • You are away for a very short time and one or two daily fees are enough.

How to avoid Vodafone roaming charges with a family eSIM

If you choose a travel eSIM for data, you keep your Vodafone number and your contract as they are.

Before you travel

  1. Check each phone is eSIM compatible: dial *#06# and look for an EID. The compatibility page lists the main models.
  2. Place one order for the whole family, with one eSIM per traveller and a plan for each person.
  3. Each traveller receives their own installation link by SMS or email. Install it at home over Wi-Fi.

When you land

  • Vodafone line: keep it switched on for calls and texts, with data roaming turned off, so that mobile data does not trigger the daily fee.
  • Sirocco line: select it for mobile data, with data roaming turned on. Our guide to turning on data roaming walks you through it.
  • iPhone: leave your Vodafone line selected for iMessage and FaceTime.

Your number and WhatsApp stay the same. Calls and texts still reach your Vodafone line if it is switched on. Read more on keeping your number.

Children's phones

Check that the child's phone supports eSIM before you book. With Kids Mode, the child's screen shows no prices, there is no account in the child's name and the parent manages the eSIM. A smaller plan often suits a child, and you can top up one traveller later without reinstalling. See the kids eSIM page.

Check your Vodafone plan before you go

Vodafone itself recommends a few checks before travelling:

  • Log in to My Vodafone to see which roaming benefits each line has.
  • Turn off any roaming bars on the account so that your services work abroad.
  • Use Spend Manager to set a limit on charges outside your allowance.
  • Remember that new charges can take up to 72 hours to appear on your bill while you are abroad.

Once you know which lines include roaming and which do not, you can compare the cost of Vodafone fees for every phone with a single family order.
