Entry requirementsSpain is in the Schengen area. Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before you arrive and be valid for at least 3 months after the day you leave the Schengen area. No visa for up to 90 days in any 180 days (all Schengen countries counted together). EES: on your first visit you may have your fingerprints and photo taken at the border, free of charge (children 11 and under: photo only). ETIAS (20 euros) is not in force yet: the EU will announce its start date, expected from autumn 2026. At the border you may be asked for a return ticket, proof of accommodation, travel insurance and enough money for your stay.

Children under 1.35 m must use an approved child seat in the back; any handheld phone use is banned, even when parked at the roadside.TippingService is not always added to the bill; rounding up or leaving a few euros is appreciated.
HealthA free UK GHIC (or a valid EHIC) gives access to medically necessary state healthcare, but it does not replace travel insurance (repatriation, private clinics, changes to your trip). In some resorts hotels call private doctors who do not accept the GHIC. Supervise children closely at pools and on beaches, where currents can be strong. Check recommended vaccines at least 8 weeks before you leave.

Turkey: practical info

FCDO advises against all travel to within 10 km of the border with Syria; the coastal resorts, Istanbul and Cappadocia are outside this area. The situation in the Middle East remains unpredictable: be ready for flight cancellations or airspace closures at short notice, and sign up to FCDO email alerts. There is a high risk of wildfires from April to October. FCDO also reports sexual assaults in coastal resorts, including on minors visiting toilets alone: make sure children are always with a trusted adult and never left alone with hotel or excursion staff. Turkey: warnings (FCDO) · Turkey: regional risks (FCDO)

Entry requirementsYour passport must have an expiry date at least 150 days after the day you arrive, and at least 1 blank page. No visa for up to 90 days in any 180 days on a full British citizen passport (other types of British passport need a visa). By law you must carry photo ID: keep your passport with you. Some hotels may refuse to check in under-18s who are not with a parent or guardian without written (sometimes notarised) consent. On a day trip to a Greek island you enter the Schengen area and its EES border checks.

PlugsEuropean two-pin plugs (types C and F), 230 V: bring a UK-to-Europe adapter.MoneyTurkish lira (TRY). Cards are widely accepted in cities and resorts. FCDO warns that banks and exchange offices may refuse 50 and 100 US dollar notes because of counterfeits, and that you must not take more than 5,000 US dollars' worth of lira out of Turkey.Time differenceTurkey is on UTC+3 all year and does not change its clocks: 2 hours ahead of the UK during British Summer Time (until 25 October 2026, and again from 28 March 2027), 3 hours ahead in between.DrivingDrive on the right. You need a 1968 international driving permit or a UK licence notarised in Turkish; the 1949 permit is no longer accepted, and you cannot buy one outside the UK, so get it before you go. If you bring your own car, carry a green card for third-party insurance. Helmets are compulsory on motorbikes and mopeds; take care on the roads at night.TippingAround 10% in restaurants if service is not included; small tips for hotel staff and drivers are customary.
HealthNo GHIC or EHIC in Turkey: travel insurance is essential. UK prescriptions are not accepted in Turkish pharmacies and some common medicines are controlled: bring enough for your stay and check the documents you need. People drown every year in the sea and in pools: always supervise children, even if a lifeguard is present. FCDO reports deaths from methanol in illegally produced spirits and counterfeit branded alcohol. If you are considering medical or dental treatment there, speak to your UK doctor first. Check recommended vaccines at least 8 weeks before you leave.

United States: practical info

The Atlantic hurricane season normally runs from June to November and can affect Florida and the east coast, with possible flight disruption. If you travel then, follow forecasts from the US National Hurricane Center and obey any evacuation orders from local authorities (source: FCDO). USA: safety and security (FCDO) · US National Hurricane Center

Entry requirementsEvery traveller, including babies and children, needs an approved ESTA (or a visa) before boarding. Apply only on the official ESTA website or the official ESTA Mobile app: the fee is 40.27 US dollars per person, rising to 40.62 US dollars for applications from 16 October 2026. Check your ESTA account before you travel: an ESTA without the selfie photograph now required may need a new application. You cannot normally use an ESTA if you have been arrested, have a criminal record, or have been to Cuba since 12 January 2021 or to certain countries (such as Iran or Iraq) since March 2011. Your passport must be valid for the whole stay. A child travelling with only one parent, or with another adult, should carry a consent letter (preferably notarised and in English). Officers may inspect phones and social media.

HealthNo GHIC in the US and medical treatment is very expensive: take travel insurance with high medical cover. Some hospitals ask for a deposit on admission; contact your insurer before you pay. Morocco: practical info

FCDO does not advise against travel to any part of Morocco. It warns that terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks, including in tourist areas, so stay alert. Do not try to cross the closed border with Algeria; Western Sahara has separate advice. Many beaches have little or no lifeguard cover, and quad-bike accidents are frequent: always wear a helmet. Ask before photographing people, especially children. Morocco: travel advice (FCDO) · Morocco: safety and security (FCDO) · Morocco: regional risks (FCDO)

Entry requirementsEvery traveller, including children, needs their own passport with an expiry date at least 3 months after the day you arrive. It must not be damaged: Morocco has refused entry over damaged passports. No visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Make sure border staff stamp your passport on arrival, as travellers without an entry stamp have had trouble leaving.

Hire firms often set a higher minimum age.TippingTipping is customary: around 10% in restaurants, and a few dirhams for porters, guides and hotel staff.
HealthThe UK GHIC does not cover Morocco: take travel insurance that covers medical treatment and repatriation. Public hospitals are limited; private clinics are better but must be paid. Check vaccines at least 8 weeks before you go (hepatitis A and tetanus are advised for most travellers). Frequently asked questions

When are the Easter school holidays 2027?

In Birmingham, Kent and Camden, from Friday, 26 March 2027 to Sunday, 11 April 2027. Leeds and Manchester have the Easter weekend (26 to 29 March) and then 5 to 16 April; Edinburgh has a spring break from 5 to 19 April. All dates are in the table above: check your council.

Where is warm enough to swim at Easter?

The Red Sea in Egypt (sea around 23 °C) and the Canaries (around 19 °C in the sea, 22 °C on land) are your best bets. Turkey and the Algarve are pleasant for sightseeing but the sea is still cool: family hotels usually heat their pools.

What do the kids need for Florida?

A passport each, and an approved ESTA for every traveller, babies included, applied for only on the official US website or app at least 72 hours before you fly. If a child travels with only one parent, carry a signed consent letter from the other parent.

Do children need a passport valid for 150 days for Turkey?

Yes: for Turkey, each passport, children's included, must have an expiry date at least 150 days after the day you arrive, with one blank page. No visa is needed for up to 90 days on a full British citizen passport.

How much data do we need for 12 days in Turkey?

For normal use (maps, messages, social media), allow 6 to 9.5GB per person over 12 days. We suggest 10GB valid for 15 days: for four eSIMs, that comes to €32.76 in total, group discount included.

Can we install the eSIM before we leave?

Yes, and we recommend it: install it at home on wifi the day before you fly. It only starts when you land and your phone picks up a local network.

The next school holidays
